Latest Version of Facebook application for iPhone 3.1 now have push notifications for you to always be notified when something new comes up on your FB profile.
When you first start your updated application you will be asked to allow push notifications, but remember to configure them trough settings later to leave only important updates pop up.
Another great feature is address book syncing. Now you have the option to add Facebook profile picture and homepage to your contacts saved on iPhone.
