Disgraced Senator Michael Bennet Had Ties to Philip Anschutz
Gretchen Morgenson’s massive New York Times story on the 2009 hoodwinking of the Denver school system by the financial industry, aided by Colorado Democratic Senator Michael Bennet, is still drawing attention nearly a week later. Perhaps most interestingly, the story has some LA ties. It seems the city made some shady deals, similar to those of Denver, with unscrupulous financial giants that it’s now trying to hardball its way out of.
Last March, the Los Angeles City Council told its treasurer and city administrative officer to renegotiate interest-rate deals the city had used to try to lower its debt payments with the banks that sold them.
