The Digital Bookmobile, which is literally a bookmobile for eBooks, is on tour in the Midwest this month. Hitting states including Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, the book truck is acting as a community outreach vehicle for public libraries to promote digital resources. Digital publishing firm OverDrive is operating the buses.
Citizens climb aboard the 74-foot bus to learn about downloading eBooks, audiobooks, music and video at their local libraries. People can download these digital materials from the library on a computer and transfer them to mobile devices. The files expire automatically after 14 days, which addresses copyright issues and eliminates library late fees.
Yesterday the bookmobile was in Lansing, MI. Today, it is in Flint, MI. Check out the schedule here.
