<em>Country Living</em>'s 'House of the Year' Will Have a New York Home

People who care about the environment and tasteful home design, take note. Country Living announced today that its 2010 House of the Year will undergo construction in lower Manhattan's World Financial Center. Dubbed "Home Green Home," the project endeavors to equip the house with "compelling style and 'green' products and features for every room." The home will be a two-bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, 1,600 square foot cottage with a 1,100 square-foot wrap-around porch and trimmings selected by Country Living's editors and decor by Kate Ridder. The house will stay in the World Financial Center until mid-June. After that, the house will move (how, we are not sure) to New Jersey. Country Living publisher Hearst, in partnership with New World Home, is also sponsoring a "Country Living Collection" of LEED-certified homes, available for purchase by Country Living readers. The collection includes this year's House of the Year. This marks the first time the Country Living house will be built and "temporarily set" in the World Financial Center. New York (April 29, 2010) -- Country Living, the nation's leading shelter magazine, today announces its 2010 House of the Year building project "Home Green Home." Developed by New World Home and designed by the Country Living editors, this home will showcase compelling style and "green" products and features for every room. For the first time, Country Living's House of the Year will be built and temporarily set in New York City at the World Financial Center, the heart of the world's financial mecca. On June 3, 2010, Country Living will host an event unveiling the House of the Year and will open its doors to the public June 4th. Earlier this year, Hearst Brand Development partnered with New World Home to introduce the Country Living Collection, a unique collection of historically inspired modular homes featuring USGBC LEED Certification. The collection offers consumers attainable green living coupled with classic country style. The 2010 House of the Year, aptly named the "Hudson" cottage as it will be built on the shores of the Hudson River near New York Harbor, will be available for any Country Living reader to purchase across the country, an option that has never been available to readers before. "We know that Country Living consumers are passionate about the environment, and we are thrilled that these homes will enable them to experience green living and the County Living brand no matter where they live," says Sarah Gray Miller, editor-in-chief Country Living. "As it does every year, the 2010 House of the Year inspires readers with ideas to incorporate in their own homes." The 1,600 square foot "Hudson" cottage reflects the comfortable, casual lifestyle of Country Living's readers and will be featured in the November 2010 issue of Country Living magazine. All of the interior and exterior details have been have been hand-selected by the magazine's editors. Interior designer Katie Ridder will decorate the home with green furnishings and an emphasis on bold color. With 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, the home features a 1,100-square-foot wrap-around porch and an open floor plan that fully integrates the greenest products and practices available today.
