Cosmopolitan Raises Its Rate Base

In a sign that it’s expecting more readers to pay for the latest news in sex positions, perfume fragrances and celebrity hair makeovers, Hearst ladymag Cosmopolitan is raising its guaranteed number of paid sales, or rate base, to 3 million from 2.9 million.

Cosmo’s increase is modest in percentage terms, good for a 3.4% boost, but it stands out.

“It’s about newsstand for us,” said Donna Kalajian Lagani, senior VP and publisher of Cosmo.
