Chalmers M. Roberts, 1910 - 2005

Chalmers Roberts, the Washington Post’s chief diplomatic correspondent through the height of the Cold War and an integral figure in the Pentagon Papers controversy, died on April 8 at age 94. In two moving tributes over the weekend, the Post remembered the man who (twice) literally wrote the book on D.C.’s daily. His career spanned over four decades at the Post, beginning in 1933 when he was hired as a reporter at a salary of $15 a week.
