Borders Exec In Australia Not Afraid Of Google

Borders in Australia is not concerned about the new Google eBookstore. According to Smarthouse.com, one Borders executive said that, “Google is not a legitimate bookstore.”

Smarthouse.com has more: “James Webber, Managing Director of Borders, said that at this stage they do not see themselves as being threatened and that what Google is offering is not a legitimate bookstore. ‘They could become a legitimate bookstore. They aren’t today,’ said Webber. ‘They tried to sell telephones too. They failed,’ added Webber.”

At this point the Google eBookstore only works in the United States, but according to Smarthouse, Google is working on securing global rights from select publishers by mid-2011.
