Bad News In Broadcast

  • The owner of the NBC affiliate in Bakersfield, Calif., Newport Television, is requiring all employees to take 10 furlough days between now and the end of 2009, the Bakersfield Californian reports.
  • Newport also trimmed 11 jobs in Binghamton, NY and Elmira, NY when the two stations began sharing a news broadcast, the Star-Gazette reports.
  • And in Grand Rapids, Mich., the Gannett-owned ABC affiliate announced it was cutting its weekend morning newscast, with at least one layoff, meteorologist Linda Paige.
