Amazon Planning a Major Expansion in Seattle

The Seattle Times reported yesterday that Amazon recently bought 3 city blocks in Seattle, and they plan to build a one million sq ft. office tower on each block.

This deal is being called the largest Seattle real-estate transactions in years, but not much is known about it. Amazon is still mum on their plans for the space, and the seller has not disclosed the sale price or when this deal is expected to close. In fact, the deal is so new that Amazon has only just applied for planning permission for construction permits. Their first meeting with the city of Seattle aren’t scheduled until next week.

You can see the 3 city blocks on this Google Map. There’s not much there now besides parking lots, a car dealership, and a theater. If and when Amazon builds these office towers, they’ll add a significant boost to the local economy and more than double Amazon’s already substantial office space in downtown Seattle’s northern edge.
