After 80 Years of Serving Farmers and Ranchers, Tractor Supply Has a New Target: Pet Parents

Online prescriptions and on-demand vet advice cater to digitally savvy owners

Tractor Supply Company, which describes itself as the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the U.S., is expanding its animal services—more commonly for horses, cows and chickens—by offering online pet prescriptions as well as on-demand veterinary advice on its app for dogs and cats.

“Our customers can call, chat or email a team of veterinary professionals to get all their pet health questions answered,” CEO Hal Lawton said during a recent earnings call.

In addition, the company plans to add self-serve pet wash stations at up to 200 locations, while adding 50 to 75 pet wellness centers, he said.
