Y&R Shops Will Handle New Dollar Rollout

SAN FRANCISCO — Publicis & Hal Riney on Thursday won the $3-5 million North Face Inc. account after a three month review, the client confirmed.

The other finalists were Venables, Bell & Partners and Black Rocket, both San Francisco, Publicis West in Seattle and DDB Seattle and Two by Four in Chicago.

The first work from Publicis is scheduled to run in March 2003 publications.

“Their global reach will help The North Face drive brand awareness worldwide,” said Jim Gerson, the client’s vice president of marketing, in a statement. “We are confident that Publicis & Hal Riney will create ads with a fresh look that are new to the outdoor industry.”

Publicis & Hal Riney also works with Sprint PCS, Hewlett-Packard, Siebel Systems, and the Sacramento Kings.

Incumbent Blazing Paradigm of San Francisco, which recently filed for bankruptcy and reorganized as Banjo Strategic Entertainment, dropped out of the review.
