Yahoo Takes Music Property Abroad

NEW YORK Yahoo said today that it is expanding Launch, its 18-month-old U.S. music property, into Europe. The overseas entry will provide artists and labels with a marketing platform to promote concert tours and new releases to the Web portal’s 30 million European users.

Rolling out in the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, the music destination will let fans access music and music-related content from new and established artists, as well as popular performers in each local market. Other features will include music videos on demand, exclusive artist interviews, downloadable mobile phone ring tones, photos, chart information and album reviews.

Launch (, which debuted in the U.S. in December 2001, reaches 9 million domestic users per month and streams more than 110 million music videos per month.
