XM Satellite Taps Mullen, Carat

BOSTON XM Satellite Radio on Friday selected Interpublic Group’s Mullen and Aegis Group’s Carat for creative and media duties, respectively, the client confirmed.

Mullen, Wenham, Mass., competed in a review against IPG sibling Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos and independent Modernista!, both in Boston, the client said. Carat, New York, overcame Publicis Groupe’s MediaVest, also in New York, in the final round of a competition for media chores.

The client spent about $60 million last year, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR. Sources said the budget moving forward will likely be trimmed by at least one-third. The Washington, D.C.-based client had previously worked with Omnicom’s TBWA\Chiat\Day, Playa del Rey, Calif.
