Wunderman Names Leader on Microsoft

NEW YORK WPP Group’s Wunderman has hired Kass Sells to oversee its Microsoft business. Sells had been with DraftFCB West.

Sells, 45, takes the title of managing director, global client lead on Microsoft, Wunderman’s second-largest client by revenue after Ford. He’ll be based in Seattle and report to worldwide chief operating officer David Sable.

The position is new. Previously, the New York-based Sable oversaw Microsoft, albeit from his broader role. Sable will continue to be a key contact for the Seattle-based client, as Sells assumes day-to-day management duties, an agency representative said.

Previously, Sells was COO of the West Coast operations of Interpublic Group’s DraftFCB in Seattle. He oversaw 135 staffers at four offices and helped manage accounts such as Hewlett-Packard (imaging and print group).

In his new post, Sells will not only overseee Wunderman’s efforts but also those of fellow WPP shops such as VML, Zaaz and KnowledgeBase Marketing that also work on Microsoft.

Sable described Sells as a “team builder, collaborator and master of customer relationships,” adding, “He knows how to blend insights, metrics and optimization—the core of Microsoft’s charter—to deliver powerful results.”

Sells spent a year at DraftFCB and before that, four years at Foote, Cone & Belding, all the while based in Seattle. Earlier in his career, he held account posts at DDB in Seattle and TBWA\Chiat\Day in Venice, Calif.
