WPP Names Piliguian COO

NEW YORK Tro Piliguian, North American chairman of Ogilvy & Mather, is leaving the agency he joined 17 years ago to become chief operating officer at Ogilvy parent company WPP Group, an Ogilvy representative confirmed.

The shift, which takes effect in January, comes a few months after Piliguian handed his North American CEO duties to Bill Gray and Carla Hendra.

A description of his new job, which also is new for WPP, was not immediately available. His chairman’s job at Ogilvy will not be filled, according to the agency rep.

Piliguian, 58, joined Ogilvy in 1988, when the agency took a stake in The Academy, a Montreal shop that he co-founded. In 1994, he became president of Ogilvy’s New York headquarters, and, in 1997, he rose to chairman and CEO for the North American region. He relinquished his CEO role last summer.

Before becoming co-CEOs, Gray and Hendra held top Ogilvy posts in New York. Gray was president of the office, and Hendra served as North American president of OgilvyOne.
