WongDoody Takes Over Seattle Film Festival

LOS ANGELES The Seattle International Film Festival has tapped WongDoody as its advertising agency following a review, the shop said.

The independent agency in Seattle edged out WPP’s Cole & Weber/Red Cell, also in Seattle, to win the pro bono account.

Interpublic Group’s Sedgwick Rd. in Seattle previously handled advertising for the SIFF, which is presented by nonprofit organization Cinema Seattle. The agency resigned the business after four years due to its workload, said Sedgwick Rd. president Jim Walker.

“We had a great run with those guys, but we’ve gotten so busy with existing clients, we honestly didn’t feel we had time to devote to it,” said Walker. In particular, he said, the shop has been working on ads for Washington Mutual and specific Nintendo game titles, is handling media for Converse, and is working on a project basis with Marshall Field’s. Sedgwick Rd. also continues to handle pro bono accounts including the Seattle Rep, the Seattle Art Museum and ArtsFund, an organization that fundraises for art organizations in King and Pierce counties.

WongDoody will produce a logo, create print, TV, radio and outdoor ads, cinematic trailers, posters, banners and postcards, and aid in merchandise design for the 2004 festival, scheduled for May 20 through June 13.

“WongDoody was just fabulous,” said Ann Jacobus, director of marketing and corporate relations for the SIFF. “The energy was fantastic, their ads are great and they have a sense of humor.”

Last year’s campaign for the SIFF from Sedgwick Rd. was tagged, “No deja vu.” It included a theatrical trailer in which a movie ticket reveals strange worlds when it is touched, as well as radio, print ads, banners and posters.

WongDoody clients also include Alaska Airlines, Clif Bar, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Alpine Electronics.
