Conventional wisdom says high school kids have a lifestyle that would kill anyone who wasn’t so youthfully robust. Is the reality as bad as the anecdotal evidence suggests? The latest edition of the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey, issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, does more to confirm than rebut the stereotype.

When it comes to eating the recommended five or more daily servings of fruits and vegetables, the majority of high schoolers fall short: 23 percent of boys and 20 percent of girls said they meet this standard.
