TXU Sponsors Amateur Winter Games

DALLAS TXU Energy has signed on as the title sponsor for the Winter Games of Texas, an Olympic-style event for amateur athletes this January in Frisco, Texas, event promoters said.

Frisco, a northern suburb of Dallas, has sought to make itself a hub of amateur and professional athletics, from ice hockey to baseball and soccer. The Winter Games will be held Jan. 13-15 at Frisco’s Dr Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark.

“Although it might take several years for this event to grow to the size and stature of TAAF’s Summer Games of Texas, if we land the 2,000 to 3,000 athletes that we are projecting for our first year, plus their families, it’s easy to see how this partnership could create a significant and positive economic impact on the local economy,” said Marla Roe, executive director of the Frisco Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) is a nonprofit organization established in 1925 to promote, organize and conduct amateur athletics. Last year, the Summer Games were held in Waco, Texas, and involved more than 6,000 athletes before an estimated attendance of more than 16,000.

TXU Energy is based in Dallas.
