After several years of jokingly proclaiming herself the Susan Lucci of the Women’s Advertising Club of Chicago, Starcom CEO Renetta McCann shed her perennial runner-up status and was named the 2002 Adwoman of the Year.

At the club’s luncheon, McCann told a roomful of advertising and media professionals the secrets to her success, in particular her ability to overcome and move beyond the boundaries she faced as an African American woman in a field dominated by white men.

The afternoon, though, was not without its levity. In McCann’s honor, attendees were treated to a nine-minute video mocking traditional upfront presentations.

The program for “R-tv” depicted McCann starring in programming such as “West Wacker,” a skew on The West Wing, and “Planning & Buying,”a Law & Order spoof.

Several jibes were also made at McCann’s diminutive stature. “She’s the shortest person I’ve ever looked up to,” said Starcom Media Vest Group CEO Jack Klues by way of introduction.
