Top Creative to Leave Lowe Lintas

NEW YORK — C.J. Waldman, an evp and creative group head at Lowe Lintas & Partners and key contributor to high-profile work for Heineken and Sprite, is leaving the agency to direct, an agency representative confirmed today. Waldman, an art director, joined the New York office in 1993, at the behest of former creative chief Lee Garfinkel. Before that, he and Garfinkel worked together (on Pepsi) at BBDO in New York.

Waldman, who could not immediately be reached, is said to have given notice this week. As a director, he will remain based in New York and work for Harvest Films, said sources.

A Lowe Lintas representative confirmed that Waldman is leaving and noted that the Heineken and Sprite accounts are serviced by multiple creative teams, including other creative group heads and creative director Dean Hacohen.

Heineken’s “It’s all about the beer” campaign combines beer moments with classic R&B music, often with a wink and a nod.

For several years, Sprite’s work spoofed soda advertising cliches, using the tagline, “Image is nothing. Thirst is everything. Obey your thirst.” This year Sprite shifted gears, using footage of street rappers in a campaign dubbed, “Voices.”

Waldman, who also worked on Heineken’s Amstel and Murphy’s brands, is the fourth creative group head to leave the agency in the past six months. The others include Kevin McKeon, who became executive creative director of Bartle Bogle Hegarty in New York, and Rob Feakins, who’s now co-executive creative director of Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners.
