Team One’s Saul Joins Deutsch/LA

LOS ANGELES Interpublic Group’s Deutsch has hired Chad Saul to lead Los Angeles-agency business development, according to Mike Duda, partner and chief corporate strategy officer.

Saul, 36, hails from Publicis Groupe’s Team One, where he was director of field operations and primary liaison between the agency and Lexus dealers. Before that, he was svp, regional director at Arnold in Santa Monica, Calif., working on Volkswagen. In 10 years with Arnold, he also worked on McDonald’s, Hyatt and the Washington Redskins.

The hire represents one of Duda’s first major moves since the agency promoted him to his new position. “We need to install people to do some of the things I’d been doing,” said Duda, who maintains offices at Deutsch in New York and Marina del Rey, Calif.

“Chad Saul is a self-starter and a business addict,” Duda said. “He has a Navy SEAL-like list of attributes, but great business development is made of intangibles, and Saul’s got them. He’s passionate, smart, curious, insatiable, and has the integrity to represent the agency well.”

Mike Sheldon, co-president of Deutsch/LA, said, “Chad gets that growth is not a conceptual business objective for us here; it’s part of who we are. It’s invigorating for a new business executive to understand that growth is part of your DNA.”

Other changes in the executive ranks include the elevation of Colleen Kelly, 44, a partner and director of new business at Deutsch/LA, to director of agency branding and operations. Kelly started as director of media in 1997 and was named a partner in 2005.

A fixture in the local ad community, Kelly has been a leader of the L.A. Advertising Agencies Association and oversaw its merger with the Magazine Representatives Association and the L.A. Ad Club into ThinkLA last year. “We’re lucky enough to have such a talent in Colleen,” said Sheldon, “and truly fortunate to have someone of her seniority to serve one client, the agency itself.”

Matthew Anderson, 36, has progressed from account director, business development, to vice president and director of business development in New York. The agency regarded him as instrumental in its recent Prevacid, Olympus and Bronx Zoo account wins.
