TaylorMade Golf, in conjunction with this week’s PGA Championship, is launching a consumer promotion called “My TP Ball.” The initiative is designed to promote the company’s premier performance line of TP Red and TP Black golf balls

Just like tour pros, who have the option of having personalized numbers stamped on the balls they play, so too will consumers have a similar opportunity to purchase balls emblazoned with any two-digit number from 00 to 99. Single digit numbers are OK too.

At the 90th PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Mich., which began today and concludes on Sunday, TaylorMade TP balls being used on the practice range are all numbered 90. Six TaylorMade tour staff pros and six TaylorMade club pros competing in the event will use balls stamped with their favorite number. The number also will be imprinted on their golf bag.

At retail, most balls sold in boxed packaging contain numbers 1 through 8.

“Everyone has a favorite number and usually there’s a personal story behind it,” said Mike Ferris, vp of TaylorMade’s golf ball division, in a written statement. “My TP Ball allows golfers to connect with their number and make their golf ball an extension of themselves. For example, [tour pro] Justin Rose plays 99 because his wife’s lucky number is 9 and he’s hoping for twice the luck”

Other numbers pros are using this week include 00, Sergio Garcia; 1, Retief Goosen; 69, Jeff Martin; 14, Peter Hedblom; 74, Eric Manning.

Consumers can create and view their own TaylorMade TP Red or TP Black balls by visiting myTPball.com. After selecting a ball and a single-digit or two-digit number combination, the golfer will preview what his or her ball will look like.

After deciding on a number, consumers fill out an online order form, print it and bring it to a participating retailer, who places the order with TaylorMade, Carlsbad, Calif. Balls will be shipped within seven days of TaylorMade’s receipt of the order form, according to the company. The minimum order of TaylorMade TP balls with a personalized number is three dozen, and My TP balls can also be logoed at additional cost.

POP materials at pro and retail shops nationwide will support. Suggested retail price for TP Balls is $39.95 per dozen, with a slight upcharge to be determined for the custom numbering.
