The Martin Agen cy, Richmond, Va.; Wieden + Ken nedy, New York; and Carmichael Lynch and Martin/Williams, both in Minneapolis, emerged from a field of nine semifinalists vying for the Framingham, Mass.-based chain’s ac count. Incumbent Cliff Freemanand Partners, New York, declined to defend.
One key difficulty in concocting potential new campaigns, sources said, is the perception that Cliff Freeman’s humorous work for Staples remains popular with both client officials and customers.
