Shops Queue for CareerBuilder

CareerBuilder has nar rowed the list of contestants for its $14-20 million account to five Midwest shops, the client confirmed.

Competing for the business are Bernstein-Rein and Bark ley Evergreen & Part ners, both in Kan sas City, Mo.; MARC USA and Cramer-Krasselt in Chicago; and Doner, Southfield, Mich.

The Reston, Va.-based online job and recruitment service, which is in the process of shifting its headquarters to Chicago, culled the finalists from a list of agencies put together by consultant Hasan Ramusevic of Hasan & Co. in Raleigh, N.C. Proposal requests were sent to 15 agencies and returned midmonth.

Incumbent The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., which won the account in 1999, was invited to participate in the review but declined.

CareerBuilder is co-owned by Knight Ridder and the Tribune Co., and last year acquired Head hun ter’s Bob Mont gom ery subsequent ly took over as chief executive officer at Career Builder.

The review was spurred by management changes that included Montgom ery’s move to CEO. Other new managers include chief marketing officer Judy Hackett and chief sales officer Mary Delaney.

Kate Dawson, director of marketing, is spearheading the review. Dawson said she expects a decision by mid-May, about the same time the move to Chicago will be complete.
