Picks Saatchi, an Internet site that helps consumers shop for deals at businesses near their homes, has selected Saatchi & Saatchi here to design their first national ad push.

Billings are estimated at $10-15 million. The search was conducted by Select Resources International, Los Angeles.

The shop, which works with several dot-coms and financial institutions, beat five other undisclosed Bay Area agencies in the review. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based client said it tapped Saatchi for its planning talent as well as its creative work.

“We chose Saatchi as much for its ability to be a strong strategic partner as for the outstanding quality of its creative and media product,” said Mary Gold, chief marketing officer for the dot-com.

The agency did not report when its work for the online advertiser would be released except to say that it will design its first ad campaign during the next few months.

The site works like a coupon book. Customers can search for items by product, store and brand, and limit the search to their particular area. lists hundreds of products that are on sale and provides shopping tips, buyers guides and product reviews.

Web site visitors can also sign up for sales alerts at their favorite shopping locations. After they sign up, customers will be alerted to sales by e-mail. Users do not have to pay for the service.

“ has an ex– tremely innovative perspective on how the Web can be used in an offline world,” said Julie Bauer, agency president, adding that her shop is excited to “be involved with their vision.”

At a time when many advertisers are avoiding dot-com accounts, Saatchi officials said their new client’s passion for its online service stood out.

“As we talked to consumers and developed a better understanding of their love of shopping, the opportunities for [] became more evident,” said Durk Barnhill, an account director at Saatchi. is backed by several venture capital firms, including Trinity Ventures, Brentwood Venture Capital and Technology Development Fund.

Saatchi’s Bay Area outpost’s roster includes E-Loan,, Barclays Global Investors and The San Jose Mercury News.
