Semifinalists Emerge in Broadcom Review

LOS ANGELES Broadcom Corp. has named seven semifinalists in the review for its creative and media account, confirmed Select Resources International, which is leading the search.

Shops advancing are WPP Group’s Cole & Weber/Red Cell in Seattle, J. Walter Thompson in San Francisco and Young & Rubicam in Irvine, Calif.; Omnicom’s Doremus in San Francisco and DDB in Los Angeles; Dentsu’s Colby & Partners in Santa Monica, Calif.; and independent Godfrey Q & Partners in San Francisco.

The Irvine, Calif.-based client, which provides technologies and products that enable broadband communications and networking of voice, video and data, has not previously worked with an agency.

Billings are undisclosed. While Broadcom had $1 million in business-to-business media expenditures in 2002, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR, spending for future advertising efforts is expected to increase.

Chemistry meetings are taking place this week and next. Finalists will be selected by the end of this month, with a decision by the end of June, according to SRI in West Hollywood, Calif.
