Samsung Reviews European Cell Business

NEW YORK Samsung has confirmed launching a review for its European mobile communications business, which consists mainly of marketing cell phones and related products.

The work in review constitutes a new assignment, a company representative said. Billings were not disclosed.

Shops within WPP Group, Interpublic Group and Publicis Groupe are pursuing the assignment, sources said.

The Seoul, South Korea-based client’s mobile communications division began contacting shops in mid-December. The Samsung rep declined comment on the agencies involved.

The new assignment comes just two months after Samsung awarded its estimated $150-200 million global corporate image assignment to an agency team from WPP that included Red Cell and J. Walter Thompson. IPG’s Foote Cone & Belding was the incumbent. FCB continues to handle marketing services work for Samsung in various parts of the world.

Publicis Groupe agencies Saatchi & Saatchi and Leo Burnett also pursued that business.

It could not be determined if any of those agencies was vying for the European mobile phones assignment.
