Publicis West Snags Microsoft Exec

LOS ANGELES Publicis Groupe’s Publicis in the West has hired Microsoft marketing executive David Camp as evp, director of business strategy, said Randy Browning, chairman and CEO.

The Seattle-based shop has asked Camp to grow the agency’s T-Mobile business. “As one of our key executives, he will work with the clients and their marketing departments and play upstream, as a bridge to what we do in creative,” said Browning.

Camp previously served as the director of global marketing for Windows Mobile at Microsoft. He began his career at Saatchi & Saatchi, New York, where he worked on Johnson & Johnson and General Mills. Later, he held marketing posts at companies such as Compaq, DuPont, Motorola, Kodak, Dannon and the AARP.

“We’ve been following the success of Windows Mobile closely,” said Browning. “We’d been impressed with the division he’s been responsible for, and that’s how we got to know him.”

As consumers get more involved in how brands engage with them, agencies have to be “more involved in the new marketing models,” Browning said. “We can’t just be executors. The game has changed. David is helping us make that transition.”

Browning added, “It’s going to be fun to de-Microsoft him. He’s super passionate and super creative and he’s enjoying the conversations we’re having here.”

Other Publicis clients include Citi, Hewlett-Packard, Coinstar, Oral-B, RealNetworks and the Washington State lottery.
