Publicis PR Chief Joins Burson-Marsteller

BOSTON Public relations veteran Andy Hopson has joined Burson-Marsteller as president and chief executive officer of the firm’s Northeast region and its New York market leader.

Prior to this appointment, Hopson, 48, had been president and chief operating officer of Publicis Dialog since 1998. Hopson will be based at the company’s New York headquarters and will report to Chet Burchett, president and chief executive officer of Burson-Marsteller USA.

“We are very fortunate to have someone with Andy’s skills and proven track record join our team in New York,” said Burchett. “He played a leading role in building Publicis Dialog into one of the nation’s top 20 PR firms, while his experience at a multi-disciplinary agency makes him uniquely suited to oversee our focused growth in the Northeast market across all B-M practices.”

Initially, Hopson’s goals are three-fold at Burson. Making sure his staff is being utilized effectively, focusing on ensuring current clients are getting the best counsel and winning new accounts are all top priorities, according to Hopson.

“Great companies come and go and it happens to be a time that I think Burson-Marsteller has returned to its old glory,” said Hopson. “It’s got smart management and they value the importance of public relations—and I like the people I’ll be working with.”

Before working at Publicis Dialog, Hopson was president of EvansGroup Public Relations, which he joined in 1993. During his career he has worked with a variety of clients including ABC Radio Network, Asiana Airlines, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the Consumer Electronics Association and Nestle.

Publicis Dialog has not yet named a replacement for Hopson. In the interim, personnel who had reported to him will answer to Publicis USA chairman and chief executive officer Susan Gianinno.
