Publicis N.Y. Names 3 New Execs

Publicis New York has hired three executives to new positions.

The new arrivals are chief marketing officer Jennifer Garr, director of brand planning Andy Bateman and group management supervisor John Newell. All three report to Doug McMahon, Publicis New York CEO.

Garr, 43, will oversee the newly won, $25 million Siemens account and Fuji Film, among other duties, and said her first priority is to hire staffers to work on Siemens. She had headed global marketing for the past year at the Chicago office of Austrian sporting-goods company Head Sports.

Bateman, 33, will primarily focus on Club Med. He was formerly managing director of consultancy Interbrand Interactive, New York.

Newell, 33, heads up Club Med and Simon Mall. He previously was vp, marketing at SFX Entertainment in New York.

All three hires have also worked on the agency side: Garr was a senior partner and management director at J. Walter Thompson in Chicago for eight years; Bateman served as planning director at JWT in New York; and Newell was an account supervisor at JWT in New York, working on the Pepsi-Lipton Tea Partnership.

McMahon, at the New York office’s helm since last October, said, “My mandate is to build a flagship office. These are the first three hires towards that mission.”

Publicis won the Siemens account two weeks ago after a three-month review. In the past year, it has also won accounts such as Fuji and Citizen Watch. The shop claims $400 million in billings and now has 125 staffers.
