Like so many startups, Maker’s Row resulted from a big pivot. Unable to get a consumer e-commerce venture called Brooklyn Bakery to take off, its principals launched a portal to digitally connect American manufacturers and material suppliers to designers and brands in the U.S. after realizing the headaches involved in sourcing from China. “We were working so hard to get Brooklyn Bakery off the ground,” co-founder Matthew Burnett said.
