Overall to Boathouse

James Overall has been named partner/creative director of Boathouse, the shop launched in the spring by John Connors III.

For the past four years, Overall had been a creative director at Messner Vetere Berger Mc-Namee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG in New York, working on Volvo and New Balance. Prior to Messner, Overall worked at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston on the AMD and John Hancock Financial Services accounts.

Overall said, “What I love about Boathouse is, they think like business people. They create like ad people. And they work like athletes.”

In 1997, Overall wrote an AMD TV spot featuring an overworked em-ployee who manages to finish a report for his angry boss a split second before a giant fuel truck crashes through the window, sending the boss to hell riding a ball of flames.

Connors said Overall’s experience with big brands and comfort level with traditional advertising, direct and interactive marketing, make him a valuable addition to the team.

Overall got to know Connors during his stint at Boston’s Hill, Holliday, where the latter built up the agency’s interactive division before it was spun off as part of Zentropy Partners by Hill, Holliday parent Interpublic Group of Cos.

After a year as CEO of Zentropy, Connors formed Boathouse in Dedham, Mass. The seven-person shop offers strategic consulting and creative executions for several undisclosed clients and is not affiliated with Hill, Holliday or IPG. Chris Boland, who worked with Connors at both Zentropy and Hill, Holliday Interactive, is also a partner. Connors is the son of Hill, Holliday CEO/chairman Jack Connors.
