Optimedia Opens Tech Division

Optimedia’s new Emerging Technologies Division will develop advertising and marketing opportunities through media such as the Internet, broadband and digital video, U.S. chief executive Michael Drexler said last week. The unit falls under the purview of Bob Flood, evp, director of national electronic media at the Publicis shop. Clients include BMW and T-Mobile.

Saatchi Unit Wins $80 Mil. Plavix

NEW YORK Saatchi & Saatchi Consumer Healthcare landed creative duties on blood-thinning drug Plavix, from Bristol-Myers Squibb and Sanofi-Synthelabo, a client rep said last week. Estimated billings are $80 million. Sources said the New York-based unit of Publicis’ Saatchi & Saatchi beat out Omnicom’s DDB, Grey Global Group’s Grey, Havas’ Euro RSCG MVBMS Partners and Health@JWT, a unit of WPP’s J. Walter Thompson, in a review. The incumbent, WPP’s Ogilvy & Mather in New York, split with the client in December.

Ford’s Valentic to Join Y&R

detroit Ford Motor Co.’s vp of global marketing, Jan Valentic, will join Young & Rubicam Brands on April 1 in a new post as an evp overseeing Microsoft’s international marketing efforts. In her global role at Ford, Valentic, 43, has worked with roster shop Y&R, which handles brands such as Land Rover, Jaguar and Lincoln-Mercury. Ford’s global marketing will be realigned under Jim O’Connor, group vice president, North America marketing, sales and service.
