NEW YORK WPP Group’s Ogilvy & Mather has promoted Bill Gray, president of its lead office here, and Carla Hendra, North American president of OgilvyOne, to co-CEOs of Ogilvy’s North American operations, the agency confirmed.

Gray and Hendra picked up their titles and duties from Tro Piliguian, who remains North American chairman.

Separately, Piliguian has set up an Office of the Chairman for North America that will also include Gray, Hendra and Gary Lee, the chief operating officer for the region, the agency said. Gray, Hendra and Lee continue to report to Piliguian.

In addition, Gray and Hendra, in their first big management move, named a third chief creative officer for Ogilvy’s New York headquarters: Jan Leth, North American executive creative director at OgilvyInteractive. Chris Wall and David Apicella are Ogilvy New York’s other CCOs and, along with Leth, will continue to lead the office’s creative department.

The North American and New York executive moves reflect Ogilvy’s interdisciplinary culture. At the headquarters, for example, the shop’s specialty units, including OgilvyOne (direct marketing), OgilvyInteractive and Ogilvy Public Relations, all operate out of the same building and frequently share resources and clients.

“By creating this new leadership structure [for North America], we are ensuring that we remain at the forefront of delivering programs that build our clients through all points of consumer contact,” said Piliguian, in a statement.
