Ammirati Puras Lintas, New York, has tapped Doug Knopper as senior vice president, group director, client services on the Aetna and General Motors OnStar business. Knopper comes from TBWA Chiat/Day, New York, where he worked on the Seagram’s, Champion and Wonderbra accounts.
Perianne Grignon, executive vice president, director of media and new technologies at Bates North America, New York, has resigned to accept the post of director of media services at Sears Roebuck & Co. in Hoffman Estates, Ill. Grignon joined Bates last October, replacing longtime media director Jay Schoenfeld. A successor has not been named.
Rene Gabriel has been tapped as an account manager by the Smith Advertising Group, Syracuse. Formerly the executive director of Madison County Tourism, Gabriel is responsible for developing marketing and communication materials for the agency’s tourism clients.
Gustavo Basalo has been named managing director, international network development for Hearst’s Entertainment and Syndication Group. Basalo is responsible for creating and building international satellite networks for the company.
WNYW-TV, New York, has tapped Betty Zarro as an account executive. Zarro had been national sales manager for WLNY-TV on Long Island.
Mademoiselle, New York, reported two appointments in the magazine’s promotions department: Thomas Allcock was named promotion director and Dawn David was named promotion copywriter.
Forbes, New York, has named Richard Karlgaard publisher. Kaarlgard was editor of Forbes ASAP, a technology publication.
Hachette Filipacchi Magazines, New York, has promoted Jeanne Schwenk to advertising director at Elle, and Marly Graubard to fashion director at Elle.
MTV Networks, New York, has tapped Todd Phillips as vice president, communications and Vanessa Reyes as director, communications.
Eric Cantor was named senior vice president, sales and marketing for the McGraw-Hill Construction Information Group, New York. Cantor had been senior vice president, marketing and new business development for Buckeye Communications.
