Money News: Dobbs Returning To CNN

After two years away, Lou Dobbs will return to the Cable News Network as anchor and managing editor of CNN’s “Moneyline News Hour” and lead news anchor for CNN U.S. and CNNfn, which will be folded into a renamed news program called “CNN Money” this year.

Dobbs is expected to return to CNN on May 14 in an effort to bolster flagging ratings of the network’s signature business show. He joined CNN at its inception in 1980 and became anchor of “Moneyline News Hour” that year. He went on to oversee the launch of CNNfn in December 1995 and managed that network until he resigned in June 1999.

Dobbs left CNN after an alleged dispute with then-president Rick Kaplan (HR 6/9/99). But CNN’s current chairman and CEO Tom Johnson had nothing but praise for Dobbs in announcing the newsman’s return Tuesday. He called Dobbs “the best business journalist and anchor in television.”
