Adding depth to its talent pool following recent account wins, McCarthy Mambro Bertino last week hired Jay Nelson as associate creative director, a new post.

Carrie Parks, Karie Seykora and Patrick Lindsay have also joined the Boston agency as account director, art director and copywriter, respectively.

MMB is expanding is its staff following a strong year that has seen the agency add as much as $30 million in combined billings from accounts such as Infogrames, Tweeter and Clarks. The shop estimates its current billings at about $80 million—a nearly 70 percent increase over 2001.

Nelson was most recently co-founder and creative director of Six, a boutique agency fused into Portland, Maine-based Via last spring when the latter expanded into the Boston market. Nelson said his departure from Six shortly before its June absorption by Via was not tied to that deal.

“Jay’s a creative spirit … but he’s also a good manager and he’s smart,” said Fred Bertino, president and co-founder of the 2-year-old MMB. “He’s a building block for our agency.”

In his new capacity, Nelson will initially spend most of his time developing broadcast campaigns for Infogrames, Santa Monica, Calif.; he will also work on Jiffy Lube.

“The reason I came here is because I wanted to be part of something new and help grow the agency,” said Nelson.

Prior to Six, Nelson was creative director at the Donovan Group, Watertown, Mass., from 1998-2001. Nelson also served as vp, associate creative director at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in the mid-1990s. Before that, he spent nearly a decade in the creative ranks at Arnold. MMB partners Bertino and Jamie Mambro—who serve as the shop’s chief creatives—are both Hill, Holliday alums.

Parks will serve as account director for Infogrames. Previously, Parks was at Holland Mark, Boston, which closed last year. She also worked at Ingalls, Boston, and RTC Group, Washington, D.C. Veryfine Products, Mazda, US Airways and MCI are among the clients with which Parks has worked.

As art director, Seykora will spearhead a new design group and work on all of the agency’s accounts from a design perspective. New copywriter Lindsay will work with Seykora. Prior to MMB, he freelanced at several agencies in Atlanta and gained experience with clients including Arby’s, Coca-Cola, Georgia State University and Na-ture’s Own Bread.
