ATLANTA Coca-Cola today said it has created a department that would coordinate global marketing, new product development and expansion plans.

Mary Minnick, 45, currently president of the company’s Asian operations, will helm the unit.

Coke’s chief marketing officer, Chuck Fruit, and the company’s chief research and development officer, Danny Strickland, will now report to Minnick.

“We need an increasingly coordinated and integrated effort across our innovation, marketing and strategic growth,” said Neville Isdell, chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola, in a statement.
