CHICAGO Independent agency Doner has been named lead agency for Memorex after a review, according to the agency.

Billings are $10-15 million, according to sources.

Doner will handle the business at its Southfield, Mich., and Newport Beach, Calif., offices, with an eye on contemporizing the brand.

Memorex, already the U.S. market share leader in digital media and accessories, operates in a changing landscape where digital audio and video storage products are commonplace for personal and business use, according to the agency. The shop’s first work is expected in spring 2006.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to work with Memorex, an iconic consumer electronics brand, and look forward to using our category insight to develop strategies that will invigorate this powerful company,” said Alan Kalter, chairman and chief executive officer of the agency, in a statement.

Other agencies that contended for the business were undisclosed.

The Cerritos, Calif., company’s previous agency was Jefferson/Acker in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Memorex spent less than $1 million on advertising last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
