McGarrah/Jessee Adds Day as ECD

DALLAS Former BBDO Detroit creative director Cameron Day, known for his advertising on behalf of Chrysler, Land Rover and Toyota, has joined independent McGarrah/Jessee as executive creative director, the agency said.

Day, who created award-winning Land Rover spots for Omnicom Group’s GSD&M in Austin, Texas, will work with Mark McGarrah and Bryan Jesse, who left GSD&M to start their own agency a few blocks away.

Day is the son of TBWA\Chiat\Day co-founder Guy Day.

“Knowing his father for 35 years, I know Cameron has good genes,” TBWA\C\D chairman and chief creative officer Lee Clow said.

Day’s non-automotive clients have included Rolling Stone, Kinko’s, Diesel Footwear and 7/11. His efforts have been recognized at the industry’s top awards programs including the One Show, Communication Arts Advertising Annual and Cannes. “Orbit,” a 60-second television spot he developed for Land Rover, is on permanent exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

After two years at BBDO’s Detroit office overseeing the repositioning work for Chrysler’s new models including the PT Cruiser and Crossfire, Day said he was ready to return to Austin.

“I immediately connected to Mark and Bryan’s philosophy,” Day said. “Their work has a level of craftsmanship and strategic thinking that is on par with the top national agencies.”

Day “will play a major role as we move to the next level,” said Bryan Jessee. “Cameron’s work speaks for itself, but just as importantly, he’s got what it takes to fit into the company’s spirited, down-to-earth culture.”

McGarrah/Jessee’s clients include Frost Bank, Shiner Beer, Whataburger and HEB’s Central Market. Mark McGarrah and Bryan Jessee, veterans of The Richards Group as well as GSD&M, co-founded the agency in 1996.
