McCann taps Kabus for Expanded Strategic Post

SAN FRANCISCO — Rob Kabus has been named director of strategic planning at McCann-Erickson, San Francisco effective this week. He is the second former Leagas Delaney executive to join the agency in the last four months.

In addition to overseeing McCann’s account planning department, Kabus, 42, is also in charge of the Universal McCann media planners who operate out of the San Francisco office.

Previously Kabus was director of strategic planning at Leagas, where his duties often bridged account planning and media planning. Kabus resigned last June from that post as part of an exodus of the shop’s four top executives, including Courtney Buechert, Harry Cocciolo and Sean Ehringer.

Buechert, who is now general manager of McCann in San Francisco, expanded the shops’s top strategic position and hired Kabus. Before his tenure at Leagas, Kabus handled media planning duties at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco for seven years, for clients such as Porsche, Norwegian Cruise Lines and Major League Baseball.
