McCann Restructures

World’s Largest Agency Network Creates New Global Body, Buys 4 Companies
NEW YORK–McCann-Erickson Worldwide has renamed itself McCann-Erickson WorldGroup as part of a restructuring intended to position the organization as a global marketing communications company and not just a large ad agency network.
In a related move, McCann-Erickson WorldGroup has acquired four marketing and public relations companies in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
Under the restructuring, McCann-Erickson WorldGroup will be comprised of McCann-Erickson Worldwide Advertising, the world’s largest agency network with about $10 billion in billings, and six other other McCann marketing and pr networks.
Previously, McCann’s marketing and pr networks reported to McCann-Erickson Worldwide. They will now report to McCann-Erickson WorldGroup. John J. Dooner Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of McCann-Erickson Worldwide, assumes that position at the New York-based McCann-Erickson WorldGroup. The group will be overseen by a handful of executives.
“The time is right,” Dooner said. “Our expansion and this new organization meet the needs of our worldwide clients who require a wider arsenal of communications tools.”
The four companies being acquired are: Complete Medical Group Ltd., Manchester, U.K., a medical marketing group; Barnett Fletcher Promotions Co., London, a promotional agency; Rubin, Barney & Birger, Miami, the largest pr firm in Florida; and Louis London, St. Louis, another promotional agency.
