Martin Recruits Vigilante’s Creative Chief

ATLANTA Danny Robinson, co-founder and chief creative officer at Vigilante, is leaving New York to join The Martin Agency, effective Oct. 4, both agencies said.

Robinson will be senior vice president and a creative director at the Richmond, Va., Interpublic Group shop. He becomes Martin’s 14th cd under the new creative department structure the agency formed earlier this year. Robinson’s specific duties within the agency have not been determined, said Mike Hughes, president and creative director.

Robinson and Hughes have maintained contact for the past several years. Hughes said he has served on committees and judged ad contests with Robinson and long admired his work. Robinson said he has followed The Martin Agency’s work over the years and liked what the shop has done.

During the summer, Hughes and Robinson exchanged several e-mails and arranged a meeting. After about a month of negotiating, they reached a deal for Robinson to join the agency.

“I’m leaving New York for The Martin Agency,” Robinson said. “While it’s really hard to leave Vigilante and the friends I’ve made there, this is as much a lifestyle change as it is an opportunity to do something different.”

Vigilante, a Publicis Groupe shop, specializes in urban, guerilla and youth marketing. Robinson will add that skill to Martin, but there are no plans to form a division within the agency to specialize in the areas, Hughes and Robinson said. “It was never part of [our] conversation,” Robinson added.

Joseph Alesi, Vigilante’s creative director, will assume Robinson’s duties until the agency can find a replacement.
