Make ‘EM Laugh

Just because clients don’t like your sense of humor doesn’t mean you’re not funny. Maybe you’re playing to the wrong crowd.
Besides, who better to judge your jokes than a roomful of peers? And why not make that room Stand-Up New York?
That’s the premise of the comedy club’s second Funniest Person in Advertising Contest, which will cover three nights, most likely in November and December. Each night, eight or nine cutups will deliver five to seven minutes of material, preferably about advertising.
Three judges–a club representative, an entertainment industry type and an ad person–will judge the contestants on originality, stage presence and funniness. The top three from each night will face off in a final round. First prize: a featured slot at the Upper West Side club.
A call for contestants went out last week; would-be Rodney Dangerfields were asked to call 212-877-4766. Unlike advertising, it’s free to enter. –Andrew McMains
