Northern California Entertainment Site Selects Atlanta Agency
ATLANTA–BBDO South has been named agency of record for Flipside.com, an Internet gaming site.
The Berkeley, Calif., company is owned by Havas Interactive. The parent organization’s American and European operations include service offerings in the utilities and communications industries as well as interactive entertainment and educational companies.
Billings are undetermined, but “will be competitive [in] a competitive category,” said BBDO South president and chief executive officer Chris Hall.
Flipside.com is the result of a merger between two existing online gaming sites, Won.net and PrizeCentral.com. The new site, expected to launch before the end of the year, will offer non-wagering contests covering all content categories of interactive entertainment, from action, strategy and simulation titles for hard-core enthusiasts, to more casual family fare such as card, casino and board games.
Vice president and director of marketing for Flipside, Virginia Gray, was previously an executive at agency client Cox Communications in Atlanta.
“We chose an agency I trusted and knew had the ability to meet our demands, plus the savvy to understand our business model and bottom line,” Gray said. “[We’re] at the forefront of an important industry that has vast potential. We need and want an agency that is both a strategic and creative powerhouse, experienced in building Internet brands.”
“After she joined this new firm, she called us and said, ‘Let’s get to work right away,’ ” Hall recalled. “It was a nice endorsement. We had to make a capabilities presentation to other members of the Flipside team, offer them some thoughts about their business, but that went just fine.”
The Atlanta shop has already designed the site’s logo. A multimedia campaign will help launch Flipside.com later this year.
Gray said Flipside.com’s advertising budget would be substantial.
“We are committed to making Flipside.com the leader in its category and fully understand the expenditure of creativity, time and money it takes to achieve that goal,” said Gray.
“[This] is a terrific win for us for many reasons, not the least of which is the significance of a [northern California]-based Internet company selecting an Atlanta-based ad agency,” Hall said. K
