When John Verret joined the faculty of Boston University’s College of Communications several years ago, he didn’t expect to be spending most of his time in a laboratory.

Verret doesn’t have much experience with test tubes or beakers. But as former vice chairman of Arnold, he has the perfect background to serve as a faculty advisor to AdLab, the school’s long-running training program for would-be advertising professionals.

“We try to run it as close to a real advertising agency as possible,” said Verret, an associate professor of advertising at BU.
