Knight Ridder Digital Taps New CEO

SAN FRANCISCO — Hilary A. Schneider, CEO of Red Herring Communications, has been named president and chief executive of Knight Ridder Digital and vp of Knight Ridder, effective April 29.

In her new job, Schneider, 41, will manage Knight Ridder’s online activities, including overseeing more than 58 Web sites, national and local Web sales efforts, software development and content creation. She will also run the San Jose, Calif.-based company’s investments in CareerBuilder and Classified Ventures.

Prior to joining Red Herring, Schneider served as president and CEO of Times Mirror Interactive in Baltimore from 1999-2000, managing all of the company’s Internet activities. Before that, she spent seven years with The Baltimore Sun Company.

Knight Ridder is the nation’s second-largest newspaper publisher. The company includes 32 daily newspapers in 28 U.S. markets. Along with online versions of its print publications, Knight Ridder Digital creates and maintains a variety of online services, including Real Cities, a national network of city guides.
