With few exceptions, the hospitality industry doesn’t embrace pets so much as it tolerates them.
Ten years ago, my wife and I moved from Boston to Portland, Oregon with our two cats—Switz and Ernie—buckled into kennels in the back seat. We’d sent our belongings ahead in a storage container and plotted a northern route through various pet-friendly hotels recommended online.
In Syracuse, New York, we stopped at a Wegmans and bought 12-by-9-inch containers with lids to use as traveling litter boxes.
