Publicis-backed Bartle Bogle Hegarty withdrew before the finals; WPP’s JWT competed against IPG’s Gotham in New York and independent Heil-Brice Retail Advertising in Newport Beach, Calif. The incumbent, independent Johnson/Ukropina in Irvine, Calif., did not participate.
