Just Think How Cheery They'd Be If They Weren't Discriminated Against

In assessing the status of American women, two clear alternatives present themselves: (a) women feel discriminated against and, hence, are less satisfied with life than men are, or (b) women don’t feel discriminated against and, hence, are equally satisfied with life. But when did issues of gender ever lend themselves to clarity? Judging from the results of a recent Gallup poll, women do feel discriminated against but are nevertheless as satisfied with life as men are.

When asked how they feel about “the way women are treated in society,” just 21 percent of women said “very satisfied”; 48 percent said they’re “somewhat satisfied.”
